Norway exempts these cars from tax

Since yesterday, it has been possible for Norwegians to import cars completely without paying tax – as long as the car is over 20 years old.

Finding the dream car takes time and costs money – a lot of money. But for Norwegians, the whole process has magically become a lot easier and much cheaper. With new rules that came into effect on July 1, our Norwegian neighbors can import cars and motorcycles without paying a single krone in taxes to the state treasury. Only in Norway. Norwegians already pay barely as much in taxes as we Danes do. Norwegian Bil24 has done some calculations on it. For example, the import of a Mercedes Benz SL500 from 1993, found on Mobile.de, has become 43,486 Norwegian kroner cheaper than it was just two days ago. The tax exemption is part of the Norwegian government's basic plan, which has been underway since January, writes EB.dk. Here at home, drivers have no prospect of a gift on the Norwegian scale. There is still a tax on every car purchase – new or as a used imported car. The only small patch on the wound is that 'only' 1/4 of the road tax has to be paid when the car is considered a vintage car after its 35th year.
