Nissan has stopped spending money on the development of the internal combustion engine. Unlike several competitors, the brand bets everything on electric cars.
Nissan has spent the last Japanese yen on the development of the internal combustion engine.
Instead, the car brand is betting entirely on electric cars. The first step is a declaration that the brand has stopped spending money on the internal combustion engine.
In an interview with the Australian media Drive , the deputy director of i.a. Nissan's European division makes it very clear that the car brand is done spending money on this kind of thing.
– Our future is electric cars. We are not investing in new powertrains for cars with internal combustion engines, that's for sure, it says.

However, this does not mean that Nissan is throwing out the internal combustion engine right now and then. Instead, they will try to entice motorists to switch to electric cars via hybrids.
Among other things, this must be done by utilizing 50 percent of the energy in a petrol engine. In general, it is said that petrol engines can do a lot when they use 40 percent of the energy.
But with Nissan's new target, they will surpass BYD, which these days is presenting the world's most efficient petrol engine, which utilizes 46.06 percent of the energy.
If Nissan succeeds in getting this much out of a petrol-powered hybrid, it will be on the same level as in Formula 1, where the racing cars with hybrid V6s and 1,000 horsepower use well over half of the energy.
However, Nissan's progress in hybrid technology is not something we will notice much in Denmark. Already in October last year, Nissan announced that from 2030 it will only launch electric cars in Europe.
It also means that the legendary hand-built V6 that Nissan puts in the now very old GT-R is living on extremely borrowed time. However, Nissan has given several hints that a replacement is on the way. Read more about it here .
