New York will ban all speeds over 20 mph

In New York City, it is already forbidden to speed over 40 km/h. Now motorists – perhaps – have to slow down even further, after a new law has been voted through.

The US state of New York has, with a new law, given the city of New York permission to lower the speed of motorists to just 20 miles per hour. This corresponds to 32 km/h.

The decision comes 11 years after a 12-year-old boy was killed by a speeding driver in the borough of Brooklyn. Last year, the city government of New York City then asked the state for permission to lower the speed limit.

This is the permission that has now been granted. And that is not the only restriction the city government wants to impose on motorists. As the first city in the USA, New York places a toll ring around certain roads.

Specifically, all motorists must now pay to enter and exit central Manhattan.

The amount varies according to the type of corral. The highest amount must be paid by people in cars or vans during the day. The amount is reduced to $3.75 per night.

The Associated Press writes that.

At home, there is also a struggle to put as many sticks in the wheels for motorists. In Copenhagen, for example, a political majority wishes to introduce more than one zero-emission zone. As in the capital, the speed is wanted to be reduced significantly.
