In January 2022, Volkswagen built the last Passat ever. As such then. Because even if the estate car version continues, the sedan version is in the grave. "Almost".
The Volkswagen Passat lives on as a sedan. Just not in Europe. Or in the US for that matter, where production was kept alive a little longer.
Instead, Volkswagen has breathed new life into the Passat name for a sedan that only the Chinese can come close to.
This is stated by the dictatorship state's Ministry of Information ahead of the car's type approval in the country.
The car will be named Passat Pro. And the design is, as you would expect, that the Passat, which in Europe is only available as a station wagon (VW says "Variant", ed.), will look like a sedan.

But because the Chinese like plenty of legroom, and the average Chinese is no taller than 169 centimeters, the Passat Pro is actually a bit longer than the Passat Variant. The Passat Pro is more than 5 meters long.
Why Passat Pro is called Pro is not known. It looks neither wilder, more exciting nor more exclusive than the estate car available in Europe.
In terms of engine, there is not much to deal with. In fact, there are only two options: namely a 1.5-liter petrol with 160 horsepower and a two-liter with 220 horsepower. Both have a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
But unlike here at home and in the rest of Europe, the Chinese have to look far for four-wheel drive. Instead of the 4Motion drive, the new Passat is content to work on the front wheels.
