New Mercedes voted 'truck of the year' – but there is a problem

Mercedes-Benz's electric truck eActros 600 has won the award as 'International Truck of the Year 2025' without all the jury members shorting it.

Can you name a car as the best of its kind without having a map of it? Hardly. Yet that is exactly what has happened to Mercedes-Benz's electric truck eActros 600.

The truck has just been named 'International Truck of the Year 2025' or truck of the year. But if the director of Daimler Trucks, Karin Rådström, is to be believed, something is very wrong.

Karin Rådström says that the selection took place without all jury members necessarily having a map of the car. The jury mainly consists of journalists from 24 European countries.

– Almost all jury members already have test cards eActros 600 on roads around Europe – so they had the opportunity to personally experience the truck's performance, says Daimler Trucks' Swedish director Karin Rådström in a press release .

The Mercedes eAtros 600 has a newly developed electric "e-axle" developed for long-distance transport. It is designed for 800 volt architecture, which we, among other things, know it from the Porsche Taycan and a gearbox with four steps.

The electric motors generate 536 horsepower in normal use, but can produce up to 800 horsepower. The truck's cruise control and gearbox adapt in other ways to road conditions, markings and design.

Last year, by the way, it was also an electric truck that won the famous title, which can therefore be awarded without the jury necessarily being behind the wheel.

The prize has been awarded ever since 1977, when it was a Seddon Atkinson 200 that received the honour. Incidentally, Seddon no longer exists. The brand was closed by the owner, Italian Iveco, in 2009.
