Haas now confirms that it has secured the services of Kevin Magnussen, even though the Dane is without a seat in Formula 1 in 2025. This is ensured by a new contract.
Haas has confirmed that Kevin Magnussen's contract with BMW allows him to continue to have a role in Formula 1.
This is reported by PlanetF1 .
Magnussen, who left his position as permanent driver at Haas after the 2024 season, has secured a deal as a factory driver in BMW's LMDh program, Boosted reported back in December.
Earlier this year, it became clear that Magnussen would be replaced as driver at Haas by Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman.
Magnussen's upcoming role in motorsport was further clarified with the news of his participation in BMW's program, which includes a run in the IMSA series in the United States and World Endurance racing (WEC) championship.
Magnussen is expected to return to long-distance racing at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January, while the details of how the Dane will split his time between the series have not yet been determined.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu has, however, emphasized that work is underway to find a new role for Magnussen on the team.
"We decided not to renew his contract as a race coach. But Kevin has made a significant contribution to the team over the past seven years," Komatsu told the media during the final Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi.
– You can see what he's capable of with his results in Austin and Mexico. On his best days he's a very stable and fast driver.
"That's why we're trying to find a way to continue working with him. What exactly his role will be next year is not yet defined," the team manager added.
A challenge for Magnussen's dual role could be the overlap between the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, both taking place on the same weekend in June.
According to Komatsu, however, Magnussen has ensured that the BMW contract gives him the flexibility to continue to perform work for Haas.
– He made sure he could continue to contribute with us, even with his BMW contract. We have had open conversations about what he is looking for and what we can offer.
"Before he signed with BMW, we talked about how we could make it work. And we agreed on an overall framework," Komatsu explained.
Haas thus appears to be maintaining a connection with Magnussen even after he steps down as racing coach. The specifics of the collaboration will likely be decided in the coming months.
