New agreement: The government will make diesel more expensive in 2025

It was expected. But now it is certain that diesel will become significantly more expensive again. From 1 January, the price per liter will rise due to the government's new agreement.

Danish diesel drivers have to go back to their pockets. On 1 January 2025, the price per liter of diesel will rise by an additional 50 ore in pure taxes.

The increase comes on top of a 15-year-old agreement that meant that both diesel and petrol have already been more expensive to fill up in Denmark since 1 January 2024.

But now the government, in agreement with SF, De Konservative, Enhedslisten and De Radikale, is raising the price again.

Ritzau writes that.

In return, diesel car owners are allowed to get off cheaper in the so-called equalization tax. Here, the parties have set aside DKK 150 million for the purpose in 2025 and 2026.

However, the private drivers are not the only ones who have to pick up the slack. So must the business world. The politicians will not touch the new kilometer tax for all fossil fuel-powered trucks on Danish roads.

However, it must be reduced from the original starting point of DKK 1.30 per kilometer. But it is also only temporary. Namely from 2025 to 2028.

According to Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen (S), it is beneficial for the environment that motorists now once again have to go into their pockets.

– Towards 2030, we will invest five billion kroner, in addition to what we have already set aside. It is an important contribution to Denmark becoming a green and climate-friendly country, says the minister in a comment.

Back among private drivers, those in fossil fuel cars can safely expect that it will be more expensive to fill up the car. Previously, the government has estimated that new EU requirements alone will make a liter of petrol around 1.3 kroner more expensive at petrol stations in 2030. Read more about this here .
