Motorists must pay DKK 34,000 for rolling over on the Storebælt

On 22 December last year, a van overturned on the Storebæltsbroen. Now the driver has to pocket the money in a salacious compensation case.

Sund og Bælt, which is responsible for the operation of the Storebæltsbroen, must receive DKK 34,000 in compensation.

It is stuck after a van overturned on the bridge on December 22. All at a time when there was a strong crosswind on the bridge.

This is stated by Sund og Bælt in a press release .

Although according to Sund og Bælt the amount does not sound like much, the case is important for several reasons, says operations director Soren Ulrik Hillersborg.

– It is important for us to send a signal that it is the driver's own responsibility to assess whether it is safe to go out on the connection when there is strong wind. It is ultimately about the safety of all of us.

When the van overturned, no one was injured. But it could just as well have happened, Sund and Bælt believe.

– We could have been in a situation where the accident had serious human consequences. In addition, it also paralyzed traffic for several hours on one of the busiest travel days of the year. The situation could perhaps have been avoided, says Soren Ulrik Hillersborg.

Sund og Bælt also refers to several cases, i.a. about heavy traffic at the tollbooth on the Storebæltbroen. One thing that the people on the bridge cannot figure out, however, is to send images from the speed cameras to the police.

In any case, the pictures are so bad that the police can't come after any drivers at all. Read more about that case here .
