Motorists break a new law every minute – the police do nothing

Since March last year, cars have been banned on Stefansgade in Copenhagen. But the drivers don't care, and neither do the police.

Not since 3 April 2023 have the police written up a motorist for driving through Stefansgade in Copenhagen, which has been a zero-emission zone since March of the same year. Denmark's first, in other words.

However, the police do not enforce the ban, which applies to all cars other than electric cars. And the drivers are obviously just as unconcerned about being caught.

This is written by TV2 Kosmopol .

The Conservatives in Copenhagen Municipality were against the zero-emission zone from the start. And according to TV2 Kosmopol, the party still is.

According to the party's group chairman, Morten Melchiors, suggests to the media that motorists are still driving through Stefansgade, even though they are not allowed to be there.

Melchiors believes otherwise that it makes good sense that the police do not enforce the law, or at least give it a very low priority. Because in the capital there is much else to see.

However, the city government in Copenhagen is not the only one that is after the motorists. In Gladsaxe, a particularly reviled phenomenon from the 1970s has been introduced. Read more about it here .

According to TV2 Kosmopol, neither the Copenhagen Police nor environmental mayor Line Barfod (EL), who is responsible for the zero emission zone, has wanted to deal with the problem.

However, this does not change the fact that Stefansgade remains off-limits to many motorists. Only in the new year will the attempt with the zero-emission zone be evaluated. The municipality will then look at whether it should be made permanent.

In Copenhagen, however, the politicians must also think carefully. As the rules are today, each Danish city may only introduce one zero-emission zone. However, Copenhagen's politicians have already expressed a desire to establish many more. Read more about it here .
