Motorists are not ready for electric cars, says giant car group

Stellantis, which includes brands ranging from Citroën to Dodge, has long been skeptical of the idea of building electric cars exclusively. Now it turns out that motorists share this attitude.

In Denmark, electric cars have stormed forward. And although they no longer have as much momentum, Tesla, which only builds electric cars, is still in second place.

The Americans are only overtaken by Toyota. At least when it comes to sales figures. But not all drivers around the world are ready for electric cars.

This is the conclusion of a survey that the world's fourth largest car group, Stellantis, has had prepared by the analysis company YouGov.

YouGov has asked 5,095 drivers in five countries about their relationship with electric cars and whether they feel ready to drive one in a world of 8 billion people.

The more than 5,000 drivers come from France, the USA, Brazil, India and Morocco respectively. Three out of four answered that they 'feel ready to switch to an electric car'.

But more interestingly, the same survey shows that less than 10 percent of drivers have actually done something about it. In other words, replaced the petrol or diesel car with something powered by electricity.

The same survey also shows that it is the older part of the population and citizens in peripheral areas who are most skeptical of the electric car.

Meanwhile, the younger generation and people in the cities generally welcome the electric car more. However, they are also the types most willing to ditch the car entirely in favor of public transport.

In general, Stellantis is reluctant to throw all funds at pure electric cars. The car group's chief executive, Carlos Tavares, already said last year that the company and car brands in general are ready to change their minds about electric cars. Read more about it here .
