Motorist sues Ferrari for 20-year-old, life-threatening error

A Ferrari owner claims the car brand has not done enough to fix a problem that most of the brand's cars have had since 2004.

Ferrari has known that there was something wrong with the brakes in virtually all of the brand's cars for the past 20 years. Still, the brand hasn't done enough to remedy the problem.

At least not if you ask 458 Italia owner Iliya Nechev. Although his car is not 20 years old, he believes that Ferrari has had the problem that his car is suffering from since 2004.

And worse still, Ferrari has not done enough to correct the fault on the brakes, even though cars such as the 458 Italia have been recalled precisely because of it.

Bloomberg writes that.

The Ferrari owner explains to the media that, for example, he has been without brakes during a sharp 90-degree turn. To slow down, he had to downshift the car.

According to Nechev, a Ferrari dealer has explained to him that this is normal. And looking at Ferrari's recalls, the brand should also be well aware of the problem.

In the US alone, the brand recalled over 23,500 cars in 2022 due to the brake failure for which Iliya Nechev is now suing. Cars in Germany, Japan and as far away as China also had to go to the workshop.

At the time, Ferrari believed there was something wrong with a number of brake fluid reservoirs. Specifically, a leak in the lid of the container. But that is not the whole truth, Nechev believes.

Instead, he claims that the car was only able to brake properly again when the master cylinder was replaced with a new one. But, says the driver, Ferrari didn't tell anything about that.

The fact that recalls that were supposed to correct errors can themselves become errors is nothing new. Earlier this month, Boosted could tell that Kia must now recall the same electric car twice. Also in Denmark.

The first time the cars were recalled was in 2020. Here, Kia had to fix a problem that enabled the cars to roll by themselves. It just didn't work out.Read more about the case here .
