Model 3 rusts because owner closes it incorrectly, says Tesla

Tesla twice repaired a Model 3 tailgate under warranty. But when the rust returned, Tesla refused. Now the driver himself closes the tailgate incorrectly.

A Swedish Tesla Model 3 owner has been told by the car brand that he closes the tailgate incorrectly. That is, on the car he has owned from new since 2019.

The problem is caused by rust in the tailgate, says Tesla. The car brand has also previously repaired the damage under warranty.

But now that the rust has reappeared in the same place after the warranty expired, Tesla refuses to help. Not even if the Swedish response to the Car Complaints Board says that they have to.

The first two times, while the car was still under warranty, Tesla otherwise said it was all their fault because the tailgate had been adjusted incorrectly.

But now it's all suddenly the owner's fault. Even if the problem is exactly the same as the two previous times.

That's what Södermanland's Nyheter writes.

Today, Tesla believes that the tailgate is adjusted correctly and that the rust is instead caused by the owner closing the tailgate 'too tightly'. However, the owner does not agree with that. And according to him, other Model 3 owners have had exactly the same problems with their cars.

But when the car brand still refused to cover the damage, the owner chose to go to the Swedish Vehicle Complaints Board. Here they chose to give him the right. There is just the problem that Tesla does not recognize the board's decisions.

The same is otherwise the case here at home, where Tesla Denmark is the only car importer in the so-called 'overhang', which exhibits car importers, dealers and workshops that do not live up to the complaints board's decisions.

The fact that Tesla in Sweden has lost the case does not change the fact that they still do not want to help the Model 3 owner, he says to Södermanlands Nyheter.
