Michael's electric car flooded in 45 meters of water – "it works fine"

Michael's Rivian R1T was in retrospect parked in a really unfortunate spot when Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina. Although the water pushed the car 45 meters away, it works fine.

Rivian R1T owner Michael probably had to walk 45 meters from where he had last parked his car when Hurricane Helene made landfall in the US state of North Carolina.

But the car? It works fine. At least that's what the owner says himself. He had otherwise expected to find a car that would be completely destroyed. If not from the violent wind, then from the large bodies of water.

In a Facebook video, Michael explains that the car works flawlessly. And that he is even able to charge the car.

In a new interview with InsideEVs, a Rivian spokesperson also said that the brand goes to great lengths to ensure that water does not come into contact with the battery pack. The brand even uses a system that means the entire battery pack switches off if water gets close.

In any case, the car should be washed and briefly visited by a mechanic. Just so that Michael can find out whether something actually happened to the car during the extreme storm.

Not all electric cars have escaped the bodies of water as gracefully as Michael's car. Elsewhere in the US, there have been fires in electric cars precisely because of the wild amounts of water. Read more about it here .
