Michael bought Lexus for 1 billion kroner on Facebook

The founder of Bose, Amar Bose, was actually obsessed with good sound. But in the 1980s, he threw billions of kroner at the undercarriage for a Lexus. Now the car has ended up as scrap.

You may not know Amar Bose. But you know the company he founded. And although most people today associate Bose with sound, the company has spent money on much else.

Blue. in the 1980s, where the company's managers thought they needed to develop undercarriages for cars. Specifically, luxury cars like the Lexus LS400.

However, the idea of placing an electromagnetic motor at each wheel to create as much absorption in the undercarriage as possible never made it beyond the elegant Lexus. Not even though Bose spent more than 1 billion Danish kroner on the development work.

The system was simply both too heavy and too expensive for mass production that made economic sense. A total of three cars were built.

They were packed away in the 1990s. But in 2017, the company Clearmotion bought the patent from Bose. The three cars were included in the deal. However, it was only the one that still had the special undercarriage.

That's what The Drive writes.

Today, Clearmotion itself has run into financial problems. Therefore, the 3 prototypes were put up for sale. One of the company's engineers oversaw the plans and fixed the cars.

– If I hadn't bought the cars, they would probably have been scrapped, now they survive, says buyer Tom McVay to The Drive.

But he doesn't have room for the cars anymore either. That's why the once-expensive prototype spawned on the Facebook Marketplace. There are clearly several here who can remember the story of Amar Bose's car project.

Because it ended in a bidding war, as Michael Morgan. However, it is not certain that the famous Lexus will remain in "one piece".

– It is a car with a lot of history. I need it for a customer who needs to rebuild a 1995 Toyota 4Runner, says Michael Morgan.
