Mercedes' in the US can record another quarter in which sales of electric cars have collapsed. It reveals the brand's own figures for the third quarter.
Mercedes is experiencing a significant drop in sales of the brand's electric cars. In the third quarter of 2024, the car brand can note a significant decline in sales of the models EQB, EQE and EQS on the American market.
Sales of these three electric cars have fallen by 42 percent compared to the same period last year. In the third quarter of 2023, 9,984 units were sold, but this figure has fallen to 5,769 in 2024.
Mercedes does not publish sales figures broken down by body type, so it is not possible to assess whether the SUV versions of the EQE and EQS are doing better than the sedan models. Regardless of the model, however, it does not look promising for the EQ series, as sales continue to decline.
The drop in sales in the third quarter contrasts with the spring, when the EQB model saw an increase in sales in connection with the second quarter.

Still, all three models have regressed compared to last year. The EQS model in particular has been hit hard, with a 50 percent drop compared to 2023.
Mercedes has acknowledged that the company's electrification strategy has not lived up to expectations.
Earlier this year, the brand's chief executive admitted that it had been too optimistic with its electrification targets.
Against this background, Mercedes chose to shelve a planned large EV platform that was originally to be launched in 2028. In May 2024, CEO Ola Kallenius confirmed that Mercedes is changing strategy and will instead offer both electric and petrol versions of the upcoming S -class, rather than a brand new EQS model.
It is not only the electric cars that have experienced a decline in sales. The facelifted E-Class, launched two years ago, has seen a 51 percent drop in the same quarter. It looks even worse for the SL cabriolet model, which has seen a drop of 81 percent in the same period.
Mercedes' sales collapse in electric cars and several of its other models underscores the challenges the company faces in a competitive market.
Mercedes' performance department AMG is also having a hard time. Customers will be completely turned away from the four-cylinder C63 AMG.
