Mercedes gets a new permit – can only go 95 km/h

Right now, Mercedes hopes that the brand's models with self-driving technology can be allowed to drive 130 km/h before 2030. But for now they have to make do with 95 km/h.

They have already promised to take the blame if a self-driving car causes accidents. And now Mercedes cars on the so-called 'level 3' of self-driving properties are allowed to speed up.

At least in Germany. In other markets, the speed must still be kept more moderate. More on that in a moment.

However, Mercedes must continue to limit the speed so that the cars with 'level 3' technology cannot go more than 59 miles per hour, corresponding to 95 km/h.

That's what AutoCar writes.

It is, however, a significant improvement compared to the 60 km/h that the restriction allowed for. However, it is not until 2025 that Mercedes will be allowed to drive faster.

The goal is for the brand from Stuttgart to get permission to allow the self-driving cars to reach a speed of at least 130 km/h before 2030.

In other markets – for example in the USA, where Mercedes has promised to take the blame for accidents with the brand's self-driving cars, the speed limit is still 60 km/h.

Right now, the Drive Pilot package, which gives access to the self-driving features, in a Mercedes of recent date, costs 6,000 euros in Germany. The equipment is not yet legal in Denmark.

But there is something else. That is because it is already approved in Germany. And can benefit many more drivers. Boosted could tell that earlier this year.
