Mercedes blocks popular Apple equipment

Mercedes will continue to allow Apple CarPlay, the program just must not fill everything on all screens, say the Germans.

Mercedes has placed restrictions on Apple CarPlay.

In any case, the popular piece of software from the American tech giant is not allowed to fill everything on the many and often quite large screens in new and upcoming Mercedes models.

This is what the brand's Swedish CEO, Ola Kallenius, tells the media The Verge .

According to the CEO, Mercedes will in future have a 'holistic approach to software', but this does not mean that Apple CarPlay will be allowed to dominate everything.

– The short answer is no, said Ola Kallenius when he was asked about Apple's popular software and whether Mercedes plans to let the program fill everything on the car's screens.

However, this does not mean that Mercedes will resort to extremes to keep Apple completely out of its current and future model range.

This is otherwise the case at General Motors, where the group wants nothing to do with either Apple or the CarPlay program. Mercedes will not be that fundamentalist, explains Kallenius.

– We have Apple CarPlay, we have Android Auto. And if you feel more comfortable using those programs, I welcome it, says Kallenius.

However, the limitation on Apple's software is not the only one that Mercedes imposes on itself. Recently, it also emerged that the brand has changed its stance on electric cars. Read more about it here.
