Media: Toyota to revive Starlet name

Toyota is ready to expand the GR program. This time it will be a comeback for the little Starlet, writes the media .

The Toyota Starlet disappeared from Toyota's European model range in 1999.

But now the Japanese must be more than ready to revive the iconic model program. And you stick to the 'small' forms.

This time the hatchback is nicknamed GR, which indicates the top of Toyota's model range. At least when it comes to horsepower and entertainment.

This is written by the Japanese Best Car Web .

The same media described several details about both the GR Supra and GR Corolla as leaks from Toyota, because the cars were even found on the street.

The media further writes that a new Starlet should already have been on the roads this year. It was all supposed to be built on Daihatsu's platform Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA).

But Daihatsu's production has been at a standstill ever since the brand was exposed last year in yet another huge fraud case. Read more about it here.

That is why Toyota has also chosen to postpone the Starlet plans, so that there is now only a car to show off to the public in 2026.

Technically, there is not much to sniff about the new Starlet yet. But Toyota is reportedly going to keep the weight as far down as possible. That means a small 1.3-liter petrol engine without any hybrid assistance.

Toyota's engineers are working from a goal of keeping the weight under 1,000 kilos. However, this has not been confirmed by the factory.

However, Best Car Web also writes that Toyota will try to 'mirror' the already existing GR Corolla – just in a smaller form – in the upcoming Starlet. In that case, it will mean two choices when it comes to gearboxes.

Either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Unlike the original Starlet, however, one should not expect the new car to be any cheap entertainment.

It is also not certain that the car will come to Denmark at all. At home, interested Toyota customers already have to make do with the equipment variant GR-Sport. At least when it comes to the Corolla.
