Many drivers never check their car for dangerous faults

A new survey, which the tire manufacturer Continental is behind, shows that many drivers do not give their tires a thought at all. And that can be dangerous.

A survey carried out by Continental in collaboration with the research firm Fosa shows that only 20 percent of drivers check their tires for damage at least once a month.

At the same time, just 32 percent of motorists check the tires on their cars once a year. And if you ask the tire manufacturer, it's too lazy to have an attitude towards your tires. The car's only contact surface with the road.

According to Andreas Schlenke, tire expert at Continental, many damages to tires can be hidden and not as obvious as a dent or a hole in the tread.

– Damage to tires is not always as obvious as holes or as in the tread. Drivers therefore often do not immediately notice that there is a problem.

– Therefore, a regular look at the condition of the tires and checking the tread depth and tire pressure is decisive for road safety, says the expert in a press release .

He therefore recommends that motorists regularly check the condition of their tyres, including tread depth and tire pressure. The habit can help to reduce the risk of accidents and thus increase safety on the roads.

In order to achieve more uniform wear on the tires, Schlenke also recommends that drivers rotate the wheels at regular intervals. So build them around the axles.

This can help distribute the wear more evenly. However, you should always follow the specific instructions from the car manufacturer, stresses Schlenke. The survey shows that only 19 percent of motorists follow this advice.

Schlenke also points out that many injuries can be avoided by driving carefully, especially when the driver maneuvers around curbs.

He urges drivers to approach things like curbs slowly and at a right angle to minimize the risk of injury.
