Magnussen wins important race in Italy

15-year-old Luca Magnussen secured one of karting's prestigious lob victories when he won the eighth and final division of the ROK Cup Italia on Sunday.

Luca Magnussen, son of Le Mans winner Jan Magnussen and younger brother of Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen, has achieved a significant victory in his karting career.

On Sondag, the 15-year-old Dane won the final of the ROK Cup, which marked a significant result in his international lob career so far.

Magnussen went into Sunday's final lob from a starting position of number three. Already after the third turn he had taken over the lead in the Super ROK class.

Something that allowed him to build up a comfortable distance to the nearest competitors. 13 laps later he was able to cross the finish line as the winner of the race at the 7 Laghi Kart circuit, located south of Milan.

The victory is the best result in Magnussen's international karting career to date. It came home after the young Dane's fifth participation in the prestigious Italian championship, which includes eight divisions in total.

Magnussen has had a strong season in 2023, where among other things he secured a Danish championship in the DASU X30 Senior class.

For Magnussen, the win was an unexpected culmination of a demanding season, and he expressed surprise at having achieved this result.

– It has been the best weekend ever, and I am extremely happy and mega proud. The idea of competing in the ROK Cup series was to gain experience on the famous Italian racetracks and compete against some really good riders who are both older and more experienced than me.

That's why I didn't dare to dream that I would be the winner of the final, says Luca Magnussen in a press release .

Magnussen made his debut on the 7 Laghi Kart circuit in this lob, but despite the lack of experience on this particular circuit, he managed to quickly adapt to the conditions and ensure a successful end to the season. His satisfaction with the weekend's performance was further underlined by gratitude towards his team:

– It all just played out for us this weekend. It was my debut on the track, but I quickly settled in and we just hit something right.

– Huge thanks to my mechanic and of course to all my sponsors who have made it possible for us to travel to Italy and participate in this championship. I am happy that I can now return home with a trophy for all of them, he says.
