Stellantis importer Wismo Group was weeks away from recommending a traffic stop for 1,738 cars from the Stellantis group. Only now is the FDM saying no.
Wismo Group, the Danish importer of Peugeot and Opel, is recalling 1,738 cars due to a potentially fatal defect.
The defect is related to the suspension of the new generation Peugeot E-3008/E-5008 and the identical Opel Grandland, which is about to be launched in Denmark.
Two car owners have reported steering problems on their Peugeot due to broken bolts. One of the owners has shared photos of the faulty suspension on social media.
The problem is that the attachment of the ball joint at the front suspension has not been sufficient. This can cause the front suspension nuts on both sides to come loose.
FDM advises against driving in the affected cars and recommends that car owners take advantage of the offer of a loaner car.
– We very much regret the inconvenience this matter has caused our customers, and at the same time I would like to emphasize that we have taken the situation seriously from the start.
– In the first customer letter sent out, we asked owners to immediately contact a dealer where they could have a customer car made available.
"When the situation regarding the delivery of spare parts changed due to delays, we recommended that owners refrain from using their car temporarily until the necessary repairs have been made," says Hanne Sorensen, communications manager at Wismo, to FDM .
Wismo Group has recalled the cars via the Motor Register, and the owners have been informed via e-Boks. This has been done in cooperation with the Danish Safety Technology Authority and is part of a pan-European effort. The recall has, among other things, affected Swedish cars. Read more about it here.
FDM itself says that it has been informed about the problem since December 2024. But the organization has been criticized from several quarters for not saying anything about the problem. That is, for now.
The importer states that they had ball joints in stock, but lacked the tools to carry out the repair. However, Motormagazine can reveal that the dealers were asked to fix their own demo cars for the customers.
Last week, the importer received a shipment of trams. According to the company, the defect has now been corrected on over 330 cars.
Wismo Group believes that it has complied with all obligations under product safety legislation and has continuously informed the appropriate authorities about the error.
