Koenigsegg cancels the electric car – "We have something better"

Christian von Koenigsegg calls it 'total madness' that other car brands are not looking in the same direction as him. That is, instead of the electric car.

It wasn't more than a few years ago that Koenigsegg floated the idea of an electric car with 2,000 horsepower or more. But now the plans for the electric car have been cancelled.

The Swedes claim to have found something even better. This is what the brand's founder Christian von Koenigsegg tells Carup in an interview.

Had von Koenigsegg been asked 7-8 years ago, he would have insisted that the electric car was the right thing to do. So sure he is far from today. There simply aren't enough customers for an electric hypercar.

Mate Rimac, who founded Croatian Rimac and today owns Bugatti, seems to have reached the same conclusion. Read more about it here .

Back in Ängelholm, where Koenigsegg is based, however, the director is far from being against electric cars. He himself owns and drives a Tesla Model S Plaid.

But from the Swedes' point of view, there is just something that is even smarter. And on the whole, Christian von Koenigsegg thinks it's crazy that other car brands are not looking more in the same direction – namely towards synthetic fuels and bio-diesel/petrol.

– It is total madness that the major car manufacturers are not looking more at those solutions. There is not enough renewable fuel for everyone to run on it all the time.

– But if you run most of the fuel on electricity, you don't need much E85 or HVO100. A plug-in hybrid that runs on HVO100 when it is not running on electricity is the very best thing for the climate, says Koenigsegg to the media.

However, the development that Christian von Koenigsegg calls for can come to him very quickly. In any case, the re-elected president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has turned 180 degrees when it comes to the ban on the internal combustion engine. Read more about it here .
