Roughly speaking, Haas and Kevin Magnussen have agreed on a new contract. Even though the Dane will also be driving Le Mans for BMW.
Kevin Magnussen and Haas are close to signing a new contract, confirms team boss Ayao Komatsu.
The deal comes about even though Magnussen will step down as Formula One driver for the team after this season and even though he has signed a contract with BMW for 2025.
Komatsu stated before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that he would like to see Magnussen continue at Haas in a different role, and that wish is now being fulfilled.
– We decided not to extend his contract as racing choir, but he has still made a significant contribution to us. He has been with the team for seven years through ups and downs, says Komatsu at a press conference in Abu Dhabi, according to PlanetF1 .
The new agreement has been concluded in good dialogue between the two parties.
– It is a good thing that we can talk openly about this sort of thing. 'Kev' has put on the table what he was looking for and we have done the same. I can't say concretely what he will do, but roughly speaking we agree, says Komatsu.
What Magnussen's new role exactly entails has not yet been determined. Komatsu has previously indicated that the collaboration will involve test cars in two-year-old cars.
– He made sure with the BMW contract that he can still work for us, says Komatsu.
Magnussen's contract with BMW does not prevent him from continuing with Haas, as there are no significant calendar conflicts.
– So we talked, because he signed the contract. He told about the offer and said he wanted to say yes.
– I said that he should be sure that we can do this and that together. He said 'okay' and we said 'fantastic'," says Komatsu.
