Jaguar's electric cars must be parked outside again – burn up

Jaguar has once again had to tell owners of the I-Pace electric car to park their cars outside and as far away from others as possible. The cars could catch fire.

Jaguar has once again asked owners of the I-Pace electric car to park their electric cars away from buildings and other cars due to fire hazards.

The warning comes after Jaguar discovered a fire-causing flaw in several of its cars. The flaw was found in cars built between February 2018 and March 2019 that did not have a software update installed correctly.

Jaguar investigated its previous recall on November 12 and found three cars that had not been updated correctly, even though dealers had told the brand that the update had been completed.

Jaguar has subsequently reviewed logs across its dealer network and found 34 cars that continue to pose a safety risk and require repair.

There have been no reports of accidents, injuries or fires in the 34 cars. But it is a mistake that owners should take seriously.

The recall comes just weeks after Jaguar announced that the brand is buying back 2,760 I-Pace models from owners in the United States because the cars can catch fire.

The car brand's dealers will be further notified of the new recall on January 2, 2025, while owners will be informed no later than February 7. However, dealers have already been asked to install a temporary software update to fix the error.

Interestingly, Jaguar notified the US authorities of the recall on December 12th of this year. Now the brand has decided to link the additional parking warning to the same recall. This happened on December 17th.

– In accordance with recommendations from manufacturers who have had similar problems, and until the recall is complete, dealers and customers should park away from buildings, the recall states.

"If possible, cars should be charged outdoors. Customers should also limit their charging to a maximum of 80 percent until the recall is complete. The owner's manual should be consulted to confirm how to monitor the car's charge level," the automaker wrote.
