Feel like Bertie: This Opel Manta B replica looks exactly like the movie car from "Manta, Manta" but has a 204 horsepower Calibra Turbo engine under the hood.
A special Opel Manta B replica is now on sale in Germany. The car is built as a copy of the famous car from the movie "Manta, Manta". However, it has a more powerful engine than the movie car.
Under the hood is a 204 horsepower engine from an Opel Calibra Turbo. The car has the characteristic Mattig wide body kit. It thus resembles the icon from the movie theater.
The dealer "Stächelin Automobile GmbH" has the car on sale. The price is set at 89,321 euros. This corresponds to approximately 665,441 Danish kroner.
The more than 40-year-old Manta has just 132,721 kilometers. It has a fresh German inspection (TÜV) and historic license plates (H registration). This indicates a well-maintained classic.
According to the seller , the engine rebuild was done back in the 1990s. The four-cylinder engine was partially overhauled in 2025. The Mattig body kit was reportedly first installed in 2024.
Manta, the Manta movie car and Mattig Tuning
The conversion to a movie car is therefore relatively new. The car has a fresh look despite its age.
The car looks exactly like the movie car. It has the multi-piece Mattig body kit and large Mattig rims. The rims measure 11 x 15 inches at the front and 13 x 15 inches at the rear.
The paintwork is the recognizable yellow and blue color. It also has the bright red details known from the film. Inside, there are steering wheel and speedometer stickers in the Benetton style.
This Manta differs significantly from the movie car under the hood. The movie original used a two-liter engine with standard 115 hp. It was possibly tuned to 135 hp with a stiffer camshaft.
This replica has a two-liter 16V turbo engine (C20LET). The engine comes from an Opel Calibra. It produces 204 hp and sends power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
It's not just a replica
The Opel Manta is closely linked to car culture, especially in Germany. The 1991 action comedy "Manta, Manta" contributed greatly to the car's cult status. The film starred Til Schweiger.
The real star, however, was the colorful Opel Manta B. It had the wide Mattig wide body kit. The car became an icon for an entire generation.
Three copies were built for the first film. The car used in most scenes later belonged to Trini Trimpop from the band "Die Toten Hosen". It is now owned by a car dealer in Eschweiler and is considered a cultural asset.
When "Manta, Manta" hit the cinemas in 1991, the Opel Manta B was out of production. However, that didn't stop the excitement for the car. In 2023, a sequel to the film, "Manta, Manta – Zwoter Teil", was released.
Over the years, many copies of the movie car have been built. Fans and collectors can therefore find an Opel Manta B in the movie look. Daniel Holesch, known as "Manta-Dany", has built and sold several.
Dany has taken over licenses and molds from Mattig. He can therefore manufacture all parts for the wide body kit himself. You can buy the Mattig "Super Extrem" wide body kit from Dany as a do-it-yourself kit for around 32,800 Danish kroner.
The combination of a Calibra turbo engine and a Mattig wide body kit makes the Manta offered special. Although many copies exist, this particular configuration is probably unique. It offers significantly more engine power than most Manta B models.
The Opel Manta B is an icon for many car enthusiasts. The car represents a certain era in car culture and tuning.
