Not since the 1980s has there been a BMW on the street with a small vertical carbon grill. Or kidneys as the Germans say. That changes in the new Neue Klasse cars.
If there is something that is recognizable on a BMW, it is – perhaps right on the Hofmeister crack in the C-pillar – the charcoal grill. Or the kidneys, as the Germans say.
The design element has received massive criticism in recent years. Among other things, the latest bottling of the BMW M3 was called 'rabbit's teeth' when it, which the brand calls G80 internally, came out in 2020.
But for BMW, it actually started with the vertical kidneys as early as 1936 on the open 328. It's almost 90 years ago.
And now that design of the charcoal grill is returning. This is precisely what happens on BMW's new electric SUV, the Neue Klasse X.

So far, the car is just a concept. But we can safely count on the fact that what BMW's various press departments around the world have sent out to journalists today at least looks like the production version.
According to BMW in Denmark, this is an electric car with 800 volt charging technology. Something that, according to the brand itself, reduces the charging time by 30 percent.
Strictly speaking, the new electric car does not need the kidneys at the front at all. At least not for coaling. BMW has chosen to keep them anyway.
"Together with the headlights, the kidneys provide a light effect that is activated when the driver approaches the car", states the Danish importer in a press release , which also states that the Hofmeister crack in the C-pillar continues on the car.
BMW expects to be able to complete the concept car so quickly that series production will be ready as early as next year. The Germans set out with two Neue Klasse cars.
In addition to this SUV, there will be a full-size sedan with the current 3 Series. However, within two years, BMW will roll out another six cars on the Neue Klasse platform onto the roads.
