Hydrogen car from BMW is ready for series production

Corded electric cars may not be the only thing right for the automotive industry in the future. BMW still believes in hydrogen.

BMW is ready to put the hydrogen car iX5 Hydrogen into production.

And with a starting price of 79,000 euros in Germany, it is actually cheaper than both the petrol, diesel and hybrid versions. It's just not something regular BMW customers get to enjoy.

Because even though the car is now actually ready for the assembly line, BMW still considers the car a prototype.

This is written by the German Auto Motor und Sport .

The price is theoretical for the same reason, and even though the hydrogen car is actually a full 8,300 euros cheaper than, for example, the diesel version with four-wheel drive, the X5 xDrive30d.

As early as February this year, BMW stated that it still believes in hydrogen as a fuel and that the development of the fuel is important.

In an interview with Top Gear, BMW's board member Milan Nedeljković has previously shed some light on why the Germans continue to believe in hydrogen in passenger cars.

– Alternatives must be considered. This is why we keep our facilities flexible in relation to hydrogen and other technologies.

– We will not invest in internal combustion technology if there are no new internal combustion engines. But it is decisive that we remain flexible on the production line, regardless of what may happen (within the development, ed.), says BMW board member Milan Nedeljković to the media.

BMW is not the only car brand that refuses to write off the hydrogen car as part of the future on the roads around the world. Toyota, which collaborates with BMW on the Z4/Supra model, is not ready to give up on the electric car either.

Toyota's chairman says that it must be up to the motorists and not the politicians, what happens on the roads. Read more about it here .
