Huge car brand drops all models with manual transmission

There is simply no economy in the manual gear anymore. M customers are the last BMW owners to say goodbye to the three pedals.

BMW is ready to say goodbye to the manual transmission.

The brand's board member, Frank Weber, recently made this clear to BMW customers in an interview with Quattroruote .

The fact that BMW is sticking with the manual gearbox for a little longer is due to the M department. Here it is still possible to buy the small M2 and the larger siblings M3 and M4 with three pedals.

– They are fun cars, but if we have to be honest, the volume is getting smaller and smaller. So it no longer makes sense to produce them.

– If you want a manual M model, you must buy it now, says Frank Weber to the Italian media.

Thus, BMW is the last of the three big German brands to throw the manual transmission completely out of the gate. Audi has long since sold the last car with three pedals, and last year Mercedes also dropped the technology.

At home, a survey from the interest organization FDM shows that Danes also increasingly prefer the car to change gear itself.

In 2010, the number of new cars with automatic transmission was below 10 percent. Ten years later, more than 60 percent of all new cars were equipped with automatic transmissions.
