Historically, many Danes have to do the world's toughest racing race

Not one, not three, not ten, but as many as 13 Danes will start this year's edition of the 24-hour race at the Le Mans track in France. It has never happened before.

A Dane – namely Tom Kristensen – is the most winning Le Mans driver ever. But there are plenty of Danes who try to imitate him.

A good example is the starting grid for this year's lob at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Never before have 13 Danes at once had to do the legendary racing lap.

At the Danish Automobile Sports Union (DASU), it also creates joy that you have 13 Danes in 12 of the field's 62 cars from 14 car factories.

– It is extraordinary. It's something we're really, really proud of as a whole. But also on behalf of the individual choirs.

– The quantity is high, but we also believe that there is a really high quality among the Danish dancers, said Jacob Nortoft, talent and elite manager at DASU, to TV 2 Sport , when 6 out of the 13 Danish dancers were gathered in Brondby last week.

Le Mans is raced over 24 hours from 15 to 16 June this year, and again this year TV2 has secured the rights to show the race, which was last won by a Dane in 2013, when Tom Kristensen took his 9th and last victory.

We find the many Danes at Le Mans both on and off the track. The race is usually an afterthought for Danish motorsport fans.

On the other hand, several Danish names are also kept warm in other international motorsport branches. For example, the name of a mere 20-year-old is thought to be a hot topic in Formula 1. Read more about it here .
