Here it becomes impossible to get license plates in Denmark

The Danish Motor Agency is one of the government workplaces where savings must be found. Therefore, the authority will stop issuing number plates from 1 July 2025.

The Motor Authority will stop all physical dispatch of number plates and other motor services from 1 July 2025. The four existing motor dispatches in Hoje Taastrup, Odense, Aarhus and Aalborg will close as part of a larger effort to reduce the number of employees in the state.

The closure is part of the government's aim to reduce the number of government full-time employees by 1,000.

The Motor Authority's decision to close the physical expeditions will result in a reduction of 14 man-years. The board states in a press release that they will instead strengthen their digital solutions.

Citizens and businesses will in future have to handle their affairs digitally, for example when ordering license plates or test marks. However, the existing offers for telephone service will continue to be available.

According to the Motorstyrelsen, the closure of the physical expeditions is a necessary step in the development of new digital services, which must improve the user experience. In the press release, the agency states:

– The Danish Motor Agency will strengthen the current digital solutions and develop new digital offers to ensure that the Danish Agency can continue to provide a good service to citizens and businesses. In addition, we maintain our offer of help on our service telephones.

The board emphasizes that information will be provided on an ongoing basis about the new solutions being introduced, so that there are no doubts among users. One of the significant upcoming changes is the digitization of test marks, which should make it easier for citizens to use the scheme.

With the transition to more digital offers, the Danish Motor Agency hopes to be able to offer a more efficient and accessible service for both private individuals and companies, while also meeting the government's requirements to reduce the number of employees in the state.
