Sky Germany’s Formula 1 commentator Ralf Schumacher, himself involved in the sport from 1997 to 2007, envisions one man taking over a central post recently vacant at Haas.
After the promotion of the Japanese Ayao Komatsu to team manager, the same team manager lacks a ‘right-hand man’, a COO. A deputy director in other words.
And Ralf Schumacher sees an obvious candidate for that role. Namely the former team manager for both Aston Martin and then Renault/Alpine, Otmar Szafnauer.
– Otmar is both well-known in Formula 1 and has the expertise. One thing is technical expertise. Another thing is to go out and look for smart minds. Sometimes in universities.

– Having the kind of foresight and bringing in new people who can lead the team forward is a talent I think Otmar has, says Schumacher in an interview with Formel1.de.
