With the exception of Polestar, 2023 was also not the year when the many new Chinese brands caught on with Danish drivers. There are several reasons for pointing out earlier for Toyota in Denmark.
With the exception of Polestar, the Chinese brands had a hard time on the Danish market in 2023. This was even though there were many of them here at home.
This is evident from the statistics that De Danske Bilimportorer keeps on new registrations in Denmark.
No other Chinese brand came close to the 2,022 cars Polestar got on Danish number plates last year. MG came closest but was still far off with 1,438 new cars.
And there are several reasons for the lack of desire for anything from China. This is explained by Morten Hannesbo, former CEO of Toyota in Denmark, to Jyllands-Posten .

The Danes are simply concerned about everything from the quality of the cars to the resale value. In addition, there is a growing dislike of China and a general fear of a trade war, the world's second largest country in terms of population.
In Brussels, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said back in September last year that she wants to investigate whether the Chinese state illegally distributes state aid to its car industry.
A state subsidy which means that the Chinese brands can sell cars at a price where, among other things, the European brands cannot participate. Read more here.
On LinkedIn, automotive industry analyst René Tonder agrees with Morten Hannesbo's views on the difficult situation of the Chinese brands in Denmark.
