Hans' timing belt costs DKK 25,000 – Ford will not help

In 2014, Hans Eklöf bought a Ford Fiesta with a 1.0-liter Ecoboost engine. Now the timing belt must be changed for DKK 25,000. That's how expensive it is, says the brand.

There is nothing to do. The wages alone add up to several thousand kroner because Hans Eklöf must have changed the timing belt on his Ford Fiesta with EcoBoost engine.

– At an authorized Ford workshop it costs approximately SEK 25,000! Is it really true? writes Hans Eklöf for Vi Bilägare .

At least that's how it is if you ask Ford in Sweden. And yes, this is apparently exactly how Ford – or at least the individual workshop – approaches the matter.

After 10 years and 55,000 kilometers it is time for a timing belt change, and Ford charges between 4,000 and 6,000 Swedish kroner for the work alone. But according to Ford, it is completely in line with free pricing.

Comparisons of similar work show that it costs between 4,000 and 15,000 Swedish kroner to have the timing belt changed on other cars. So the bill Hans got is on the high end.

Having said that, there are similar examples here at home. Rasmus N. is one of the Fiesta owners who is also facing a huge bill. All because Ford says the timing belt must be changed after 240,000 kilometers or 10 years. Read more about it here .
