Gunther Steiner reveals important SMS from Magnussen

Gunther Steiner still has a good relationship with Kevin Magnussen. The two text messages are at least still together, reveals the former Haas boss.

Gunther Steiner hasn't been part of the Haas garage since the end of 2023. And soon Kevin Magnussen won't be either.

It is clear after Haas announced on Thursday this week that the Dane will leave the team after this season.

But that does not mean that K-Mag has thrown away the number for Gunther Steiner. The former team manager reveals this in the latest edition of the podcast "The Red Flags".

The latest SMS thread between the two was also reasonably revealing for K-Mag. Steiner makes no secret of that.

– He (Magnussen, ed.) wanted the number for one of the team managers.

The text message landed at Steiner two or three weeks before it became public knowledge that Magnussen is not a Haas team starting next season.

However, Kevin Magnussen himself maintains that he only got final certainty about his fate with the American team as recently as last week.

– He (Magnussen, ed.) always has someone in the hinterland.

– But just with Kevin, at least when we made contracts, I always spoke directly to him. Obviously, he's had someone clean up after him or a lawyer to look over the contracts. He does not do that.

– But when he talks to people, he does it himself, says Steiner about Kevin Magnussen's way of negotiating contracts.

The news that he will soon be a thing of the past at Haas, however, has not knocked Kevin Magnussen out. He wants to stay in Formula 1 immediately. Not all teams have determined the crew ahead of the 2025 season either. Both Alpine, Sauber and Williams officially have available seats.
