Both Günter Steiner and Mick Schumacher are in the past at Haas. But at least one has nothing personally against the other.
If Günter Steiner was in charge of Alpine's Formula 1 team, he would not put Mick Schumacher in the seat left vacant by Esteban Ocon in 2025.
But it has nothing to do with enmity. The rumor that the two, Steiner and Schumacher, should be deeply unfriended on a personal level, is rejected by Steiner.
This is what Haas' former team manager says in an interview with Sports Illustrated .
– When I was asked in a podcast what I wanted to do as team manager for Alpine, my answer was: hire the best choir on the market. And it is simply Carlos Sainz.

– Then I was asked if I wanted to take Mick Schumacher. I said no. And people thought I made him a worse chorister. I didn't make him bad. I answered a question honestly and correctly.
At the same time, Steiner mentions that some Formula 1 fans in particularly German-speaking countries might look askance at him because of the way Mick Schumacher rowed out of the Haas garage. But the former team manager has no problem with that. On the contrary.
– I can live with that. I can also understand that some people were not happy with the decision.
– But I have no problem with that. I don't think I'm a bad person because of it. I was at Haas to work for the team. No one else, says Steiner.
However, the charismatic, now former team manager, has not let go of Formula 1 completely. He has instead thrown himself into a commentator role in connection with most lobs on the 2024 calendar.
It also means that Steiner has a position on Haas' decision to say goodbye to Kevin Magnussen, who otherwise spent the majority of his Formula 1 career with the team. Steiner even revealed an important text message between the two. Read more about it here .
