Greece now bans drivers in electric cars with more than 40 percent current on the battery from boarding ferries throughout the country.
Since April, it has been forbidden for electric cars with more than 40 percent current on the battery to board ferries in Greece.
The same applies in other plugin hybrids. This is written by the German ADAC .
The German response to FDM writes that the current level on all electric cars is checked, because drivers are allowed to drive on board. The detailed regulations can also be found on the websites of a number of large Greek shipping companies.
The new rule makes life as an electric car owner more difficult in Greece. In any case, it requires some form of planning on the part of motorists. The fact that there are not many charging stations in Greece does not exactly make it easier to drive an electric car.

According to ADAC, there are approximately 2,000 public charging stations in Greece, most of which are located on the Greek mainland and in or in the immediate vicinity of the major cities.
For comparison, according to the Ministry of Transport, there are 21,000 public charging points in Denmark. Despite the new Greek rule, a Swedish research project shows that electric cars do not increase the risk of fire on ferries. Read more about it here .
On the other hand, there are several lawsuits right now because electric cars are believed to be to blame for the cargo ship Felicity Ace burning and sinking in the Atlantic Ocean in February 2022.
Specifically, both the ship's owner, the red boat operator Mitsui OSK Lines, and the insurance company Allianz believe that it is Volkswagen's fault that the ship went down.
The parties believe that the fire that ultimately caused the ship to sink started in a Porsche with a lithium ion battery pack.
The fire meant, among other things, that Lamborghini had to restart production of the top model Aventador. Since the fire, the many cars have not been lifted back onto land.
