Formula 1 star hit by violent tragedy

After the victory in Mexico, Ferrari's Carlos Saniz Jr. shaken by the news of the massive floods at home in Spain.

The floods in Spain have now cost at least 159 people their lives, and the authorities fear that it could be the worst in Europe for 50 years.

As Spain grapples with the scale of the disaster, Carlos Sainz Jr. itself in Brazil. The Spanish Ferrari driver won the latest Formula 1 Grand Prix in Mexico City, but the joy of the victory is mixed with sadness over the situation in his home country.

I would very much like to send a big hug to all the families in Spain who are feeling terrible after everything that has happened.

– We know all the people there, and it is very painful. We will do what is in our power to try to give them joy, says Sainz according to the Spanish Marca.

Sainz, who was born in Madrid and is the son of the well-known rally choir of the same name, has had a Formula 1 card since 2015. He has represented Toro Rosso, Renault, McLaren and, for the past four seasons, Ferrari. Next season he switches to Williams, when Lewis Hamilton leaves Mercedes in favor of Ferrari.

Previous floods in Europe have had fatal consequences. In 2021, 185 people died in Germany, in 1970 209 people lost their lives in Romania, and in 1967 around 500 people died in floods.

As recently as June this year, Audi had to close a factory in Germany due to severe flooding. Read more about it here .

– There are currently 159 dead, and to that number we must add dozen after dozen of missing, said the Spanish regional minister, Angel Víctor Torres, in a press release on Thursday.
