Eddie Jordan, who ran the Formula One team Jordan Grand Prix for many years, has died, his family has announced. "EJ" was 76 years old.
Eddie Jordan, the former Formula One team owner and television presenter, has died at the age of 76.
He died after a course of illness that he himself described as late as December 2024. Here he said that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
Jordan was a prominent figure in the Formula 1 world, not only as a team owner, but also as a public personality in the media.
From 1991 to 2005, he ran the Jordan Grand Prix Formula One team. During this period, the team became known for making way for new talent, including Michael Schumacher, who made his Formula One debut with Eddie Jordan's team in 1991.
After his time in Formula 1, Eddie Jordan continued his career as an expert commentator on the BBC and Channel 4 television channels, where he contributed his knowledge of motorsport.
Helped restart Top Gear after Clarkson
A press release from the Jordan family confirms the death.
"EJ brought an abundance of charisma, energy and Irish charm to wherever he went. He will be missed by so many people, but he leaves us with plenty of fond memories to make us smile through our grief."
Eddie Jordan will be remembered for his distinctive personality and his importance to Formula 1 sport, but also as the host of the car program Top Gear.
For a short period after the firing of Jeremy Clarkson, which caused Richard Hammond and James May to also leave the program, Jordan faded onto the screen as part of a much larger hosting team.
Back in February 2016, it was revealed that Jordan would be part of the new team. A team that, apart from the Formula 1 figure, also included racing coach Sabine Schmitz. She herself lost her battle with cancer in 2021.
As recently as a month ago, Jordan appeared on the podcast he started with fellow former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard, Formula For Success. It is not known whether the podcast will continue.
