Ford lays off 1,600 employees in Europe – now many more are smoking

1,600 of Ford's people at the factory in Valencia are already on their way out. But there are more layoffs to come, says the cooperation committee.

Ford in Europe has to say goodbye to many more colleagues.

The cooperation committee believes that it can understand this from the messages that have come from the management. It has already been announced that Ford is getting rid of 1,600 employees at the factory in Valencia, Spain.

This is written by Automobilwoche .

The cooperation committee, which is an employee-elected link to management, believes that Ford will now also fire people at the brand's factory in Cologne, Germany, and a number of other factories around Europe.

According to the cooperation committee, the layoffs come because Ford wants to slim down and streamline its European business.

It is still unclear how many positions are at stake, but the cooperation committee expects Ford to have made a decision by the last days of June at the latest.

Ford has already completed half of an earlier restructuring plan in Europe. It means that 2,300 employees have been shown out of the factory gates, and that Ford now has 13,000 factory employees on the payroll in Germany alone.

The 1,600 employees Ford has already said it wants to get rid of coincides with the news that the brand will leave its factory in the German city of Saarlouis when production of the Focus ends in 2025. Something else Ford in Denmark has tried to deny to Boosted. Read more about it here .

Back in Spain, Ford is opening a small door for some of the 1,600 employees. 1,000 of them may return when the brand wants to build up to 300,000 hybrid cars in Valencia in 2027.
