Fired Volkswagen boss scolds Tesla: "They do too little"

He himself was fired as CEO of Volkswagen. But today Herbert Diess does not hold back his opinion about Tesla.

Tesla is resting on its laurels too much. At least if you ask Hebert Diess, who was fired as head of Volkswagen in 2022.

– Tesla has done too little recently. They only have two core models. And for just as little further development, says the former VW boss according to WirtschaftsWoche .

It was otherwise Herbert Diess who, back in 2020, showed Tesla's managing director, Elon Musk, how the then new ID.3 was both short and laid out.

In the same year, the Danish Volkswagen importer received massive criticism for sending out unfinished cars to customers. The following year, DR's consumer program Kontant was able to reveal that the brand sold quite a few ID.3s to itself to embellish the official figures.

Back at Herbert Diess, in his time as head of the entire Volkswagen group, he was otherwise a great admirer of Elon Musk and Tesla. At least officially.

But even if Musk couldn't really bring himself to say anything more positive about the ID.3, Diess today has no hesitation in longing for his presumably former idol.

– These are the ongoing price reductions, insufficient refinement of the product, too small a model range and little progress in the service network. Tesla does not seem to be making as good progress with autonomous traffic as I thought, says the fired VW boss.

However, it may be that Herbert Diess will have to eat his own words very soon. Many expect Tesla to present a self-driving taxi at the beginning of October – despite several delays.

At the same time, according to Elon Musk, Tesla's factory in Shaghlani, China, was running at full pressure again. Incidentally, it is from China that many Teslas come to Denmark. This has meant that the brand has raised the price of several popular models. But now there may be news from that side. Read more about it here .
