Electric cars must not have artificial engine noise, says Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo is well on its way to escaping the internal combustion engine. But this does not mean that the Italians will pump artificial sound into the electric cars.

Alfa Romeo must be exclusively an electric car brand.

By 2027 at the latest, the Italians will sell only electric cars. At least as it seems right now. But this does not mean that you have to cheat with artificial engine noise in the electric cars.

In fact, the brand's managing director Jean-Philippe Imparato totally rejected the idea when the new Alfa Romeo Milano was presented.

Yet Imparato also believes that the brand can keep its DNA and heritage alive without the sound of an internal combustion engine.

– We want to ensure that every model in every line offers the high performance and distinctive design that defines our brand.

– An artificially generated sound will not be part of our strategy, as we focus on functionality and authenticity, says the director in an interview with Auto Bild .

However, the artificial sound, or rather the lack of it, is not the only thing that Alfa Romeo rejects.

Because even though the brand i.a. here at home today is just a shadow of itself, the Stellantis group denies that it is about to slip away from Italy and sell Alfa Romeo to someone completely different. Read more about it here .
