Electric cars break down just as much as fossil cars, says FDM

According to FDM's members, electric cars break down just as much as their counterparts powered by diesel or petrol. For the mechanics there should therefore be enough to do.

A recent survey showed that half of all mechanics have considered quitting. Last year, however, Autobranchen Danmark pointed out that there is also a lack of mechanics.

And now FDM's members say that electric cars break down just as much as traditional cars with petrol or diesel engines. It's just different, but much more expensive, parts that need to be replaced. Including inverters, chargers and sometimes batteries.

That's what Motor magazine writes.

There should therefore be enough work for both the current and future generation of mechanics. And those who come after.

Because electric cars break down, FDM believes. It's just in other ways. The fear that electric cars will make mechanics unemployed is therefore unfounded, believes the interest organization, which claims to draw on reports from 278,000 members.

As early as 2021, however, the German industrial giant Bosch warned of the exact opposite. The introduction of the electric car will mean fewer jobs. Read more about it here .

And several car brands say the same. In the same year as the warning from Bosch, the then chairman of the board at Volkswagen Herbert Diess said that the electric car could cost 30,000 jobs.

As recently as last August, General Motors fired several hundred employees precisely because of the switch to electric cars. Read more about it here .

On the other hand, the electric car owners – at least the Danish ones – are currently far cheaper in the daily operation of the cars. Among other things, because the Danish state keeps taxes down.
