Electric cars are not enough – researcher wants to ban anything over 20 km/h

It must be more expensive and more difficult to drive a car. And then, above all, it must go slower, says the traffic researcher.

If some climate goals are to be achieved, it is not enough to rely on electric cars pushing diesel and petrol cars off the roads.

More bans are needed. This is the opinion of traffic researcher Till Koglin from Lund University in Sweden.

In an interview with Swedish STV , he mentions some of the measures he believes are absolutely necessary. Among other things, far more environmental zones must be established, and far more motorists must pay a so-called congestion charge.

No more shopping centers must be built and at the same time the number of parking spaces must be sharply reduced.

In addition, the traffic researcher will prohibit all speeds above 20 km/h. Among other things. because it will be a cheaper foreclosure.

– Then we don't have to build separate infrastructure for cyclists, and we can mix different types of traffic.

In this connection, Till Koglin points out that several European cities are already well underway in throwing the cars out of the cities.

Among other things. in the Belgian city of Ghent, where cars are now almost totally banned. Paradoxically, Swedish-Chinese Volvo has a car factory in the city.

In the German city of Frankfurt, however, cyclists will not be spared either. Here, like motorists, it has become illegal to drive over 20 km/h on two wheels. Read more here .
