Volkswagen and Renault could not agree on the prerequisites for a cheap electric car. So now the French are trying in China.
A new Renault Twingo is coming. The question is just which technique it should be built on. Because there are indications that it will not be entirely the French's own.
That's what Automotive News writes.
In an interview with the media, Luca de Meo says that Renault is looking for a partner for "a cheap electric car" in China. However, this does not mean that Renault will have the car developed, designed and built in China.
According to de Meo, it is more an expression that the car brand is looking for a partner to share the development costs with.

But if it can be done, Luca de Meo is also convinced that it will be possible to make an electric car that will cost drivers 20,000 euros or less. So 150,000 kroner or less.
Renault will probably leave its own electric car division Ampere in charge of the development work. A possible bet is that Renault will let this sort of thing take place in France.
But production may very well take place at the current Twingo factory in Slovenia. What the Chinese will then use the cooperation for – and with whom they are speaking altogether – the story does not report anything.
One possibility, however, is that Renault turns to Geely. Volvo's owner has already got a partnership with the brand. And not just any collaboration, but one about millions of internal combustion engines every single year. Read more about it here .
All the while Renault and Volkswagen could not agree, the latter has not been able to drop the idea of a cheap electric car.
Therefore, the Volkswagen group is now making its own attempt to develop an electric car for the same 20,000 euros that the French also think it should cost. Read more about it here .
