Drivers must not turn their brains off with legal tricks

It is not enough just to have a traffic alarm in the car. At least not if you base your safety and that of others on the little gossip hook, says the insurance company.

The technology benefits many Danish drivers every day. But it is foolish to rely solely on the popular traffic alerts.

This is how it now sounds in a warning to Danish motorists from the insurance company Gjensidige in a press release .

– Overall, it is positive if equipment such as traffic alarms can help to ensure that people stay within the speed limits or can anticipate the traffic to a greater extent and are thus more aware of upcoming situations.

– But it is very important that the safety of a traffic alarm does not make you switch off your brain and not obey the conditions or the applicable traffic rules, says Lene Rasmussen, director of claims at Gjensidige Forsikring.

A survey that Kantar Public has carried out for Gjensidige, four out of ten answer that they have equipment in their cars that can warn against speed controls and cow formation.

And there are particularly weighty reasons for that. Two out of three answer that they have the technology in their car to avoid speeding tickets. While four out of ten say that it helps them to be more foresight in traffic.

But especially the latter, Lene Rasmussen believes, as a motorist you should pay particular attention to. The small alarms do not absolve the drivers of responsibility. This can create dangerous situations.

– It is important that you remember that you are part of an often busy traffic, and that because of a warning on your traffic alarm, you cannot allow yourself to brake hard or make risky lane changes.

– It is important that we as motorists can have confidence that we jointly comply with both the traffic rules and obey the conditions, even if you want to save time waiting in queues or avoid a speeding ticket, says the claims director.

Here at home, the traffic alerts are a big hit with motorists. They are also completely legal to install. But this is certainly not the case everywhere. Not even here in Europe, where technology is synonymous with large stalls. Read more about it here .
