A popular function in many of Volvo's cars stops working after exactly 800 hours. It costs DKK 20,000 to repair the error.
The heater that can keep the temperature in newer Volvos when the cars are parked dies. It happens after 800 hours. Exactly 800 hours and 23 minutes.
This is what Martin Arwidsson, who owns a Volvo XC70, tells Aftonbladet .
– The heater is programmed to stop working, says the Volvo owner.
Subsequently, Martin Arwidsson has received an estimate from an authorized Volvo workshop. Here you want 20,000 Swedish kroner – just over 13,000 Danish kroner – to get the heat back in the car.

The bill and the error immediately sent Martin Arwidsson on the hunt for other Volvo owners with the same problem. And he claims to have found hundreds of them.
He even managed to find a much cheaper solution to the problem by looking around on YouTube. The Webasto engine in the Volvos can be saved with a few homemade tricks.
– You reprogram the hours and reset them. Then the heater works again. It takes ten minutes, says Martin Arwidsson to the media.
However, it is not a solution, neither Volvo in Sweden nor Webasto recommends. Still, there are several Volvo owners who believe that this is the solution.
Magnus Holst, press manager at Volvo Cars Sweden, tells Aftonbladet that the car brand has not introduced the restriction that the owners are talking about. And that in any case they have not asked the subcontractor to do it.
Nevertheless, a number of motorists claim that they are also affected by the error. A problem that has so far gone beyond cars that Volvo has built between 2008 and 2012.
