The electric car causes irreparable damage to the environment. Jens Gjerlev from Holbæk thinks so after reading a debate article in the Swedish-language Finnish newspaper Åbo Underrättesler .
– A car battery for the electric car weighs approx. 500 kg, the volume is the size of a suitcase. It contains 12 kg of lithium, 30 kg of nickel, 20 kg of manganese, 15 kg of cobalt, 100 kg of copper, 200 kg of aluminum (production is extremely electrically closed), steel and plastic. There are 6,831 lithium cells inside. And it should come as no surprise that these toxic components of the batteries come from mining. This is how Bengt Karlsson begins a debate article in the Swedish-language Finnish newspaper Åbo Underrättesler . A post that has reached all the way to Denmark, where Jens Gjerlev from Holbæk has read along. And having done that, he understands, as he himself writes, 'now fully what irreparable damage the production of batteries for electric cars causes to both nature and people and especially children'. At the time of writing, Jens Gjerlev's post on Facebook, which can be read in full here , has been shared more than 18,000 times. But what do you mean? Is the electric car what will save us all? Or is it really an environmental disaster? https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10227051759060502&id=1251201393
