Does Boosted hate EVs and why do they hate them? The questions are many, and here you get the answers directly from the Boosted editorial staff.
There are big emotions in the world of cars. That's how it's always been, and that's part of the charm. But in recent years, the disagreement button has been pushed extra hard, and the associated rhetoric has become even sharper. The reason is the entry of electric cars, and this has made the debate more heated than ever – and it is approaching religious states when the comment tracks on our (and other media's) Facebook pages overflow with comments for and against electric cars. Boosted.dk is today Denmark's largest car site with over one million unique users and up to seven million page views per month. That is why we naturally also write about electric cars – both when there are exciting new models on the way, when electric cars set wild records and many other interesting things. But of course we also write news articles when electric cars catch fire, when the share price of Tesla falls sharply, or if a new electric car has a surprisingly poor range. Accused of hating electric cars Therefore, it occasionally happens that we are accused of 'hating electric cars', or that we should have a special agenda to make life really miserable for the manufacturers of electric cars. Nothing could be more wrong. At Boosted.dk, we always try to do critical and independent journalism – seasoned with entertainment in the form of funny videos and quirky stories from home and abroad. But like most other media in Denmark, we work based on the motto: "It is journalism's core task to keep an eye on whether those in power and those responsible in all areas comply with legislation, applicable rules and their own standards", as stated by the Danish Association of Journalists. Good and interesting journalism is therefore hardly the fact that a new car model has four wheels and can drive – fortunately most can. On the other hand, it is interesting that a manufacturer promises a range of 459 km in an electric car, but that it only manages 307 km in a test run by a Norwegian car media specializing in electric cars. Just as it is also interesting if a petrol car promises to do 25 km/l, but only performs 15 km in reality. So that's why you'll find critical articles about electric cars – and all other car types – at Boosted.dk. Because we are set in the world to make exciting, informative, critical and independent journalism. Always negative? We have also heard the claim that Boosted basically only writes about electric cars and always negatively about them. But at the time of writing there are over 12,300 articles on Boosted.dk, and approximately 2,000 of them contain the word 'electric car' in one context or another. So around 17 percent of all articles on the site mention electric cars. In comparison, electric cars account for 33 percent of all new car sales in 2023 in Denmark. So, in principle, we write less about electric cars than the statistics should perhaps suggest. And 83 percent of our articles do not mention electric cars in a single word. At the time of writing, 10 of the most recent 50 articles (ie 20 percent) on the site are critical of something with electric cars – including the Tesla strike, interest on Tesla loans, battery passports, more expensive repairs, errors on the Cybertruck, etc. Four articles have a more positive angle, and the rest (36 articles) do not deal with electric cars at all. So are these numbers an expression of a frenzy against electric cars or just critical and independent journalism? You have to assess that. But do we just hate driving around in an electric car? No, definitely not. The car industry in general is undergoing a wild development, which is insanely exciting to be a part of. Everyone on the Boosted editorial team loves cars, basically. This also applies to the development of electric cars. We still remember the first time we borrowed a Tesla Model S P85D for an event in Jutland. Are you sunshine, a crazy acceleration which almost gave tunnel vision! Super impressive. Just as we also love the cool gadget features that Tesla in particular has been diligent about introducing. Why does no one in the editorial office have an electric car? The answer is: We have that too. Editor-in-chief Kasper Erling owns a Tesla 3, which he is very happy with. It is perfect for trips with the family, there are lots of useful features and entertainment, and the cabin is warm every morning when the kids have to be dropped off at school. Meeen also keeps a Porsche 911 at home at the address. Because it probably doesn't surprise anyone that we as motor journalists have a passion for good engine sound, and it doesn't really go hand in hand with driving an electric car. But then the electric car can do so much else. Editor Martin Poorhamidi is also gradually getting more battery cars on the register. A newly purchased Mercedes plug-in hybrid sucks up electricity every day, so here too there is no hatred or fear of electric cars. Car fair with electric cars and much more Maybe you don't know it, but we are also the zealots behind Denmark's largest car fair, the Auto Show . An exciting transformation is underway here, where electric cars will have a greater influence on the content of the fair. Among other things, guests can test drive many new electric cars, which are placed in front of the Odense Congress Center's entrance, where 20 charging stations have been set up. And we are currently talking to several exciting exhibitors who specialize in extreme electric cars. Among others, McMurtry from England, who holds the record for fastest car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the Speirling electric car. A truly impressive invention! So you can safely count on us at Boosted.dk to continue to write about all the exciting new things that happen in the car industry. Both when it comes to cars powered by petrol, hydrogen, diesel, electricity or whatever interesting inventions may appear in the future. And we never take off the critical hat. And then enjoy the extreme speed of McMurtry's electric car with 1,000 horsepower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JYp9eGC3Cc
