In the German city of Cologne, the city government is involved in a scandal with speed cameras. At first they didn't work, now data from them has been leaked.
In the German city of Cologne there is very poor control over speed cameras. Back in October last year, it emerged that a number of speed cameras on one of the city's bridges were not working at all.
And now it turns out that the city government has mistakenly leaked data on 45,000 drivers who have speed cards in the city. That is, in places where the flash worked.
This is written by the German newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger .
The leak meant that the city government had 45,000 license plates lying on one of the municipality's portals, which has been freely accessible to the public since 2017.

In the data set, you could see everything from the number plate to the car's speed past the speed camera and where and when the flash was fired.
When the story came to light last year, the city government apologized by saying that they did not yet know the exact cause of the huge leak.
Only when the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger brought the error to the attention of the city government was public access to the many license plates removed. However, the drivers have not received any apology.
Contrary to the Germans' persistent pursuit of motorists, Italy's Transport Minister Matteo Salvini has repeatedly criticized the police and local authorities around the country for only using the speed cameras as an excuse to scrape together money.
Salvini therefore partially shut down the maneuver that both municipalities and the police use recently. Read more about it here .
