City councilors will exempt themselves from parking charges

In the German city of Magdeburg, the city council has decided to increase parking fees. Just not for themselves, and it's already causing anger.

Already last year, the city council of the German city of Magdeburg decided to make it more expensive to park in the city. That is, for everyone other than themselves.

In the coming week, the city council will vote on a proposal that exempts them from paying for parking throughout the city.

The proponents of the proposal say that the councilors should be exempted from paid parking because their work is connected with 'long mothers'. Therefore, the parties in the city council call for 'a special parking permit for city council members that is valid for as long as modern goods'.

That's what Auto Bild writes.

Alternatively, proposals have been made for the city council to pay its members more so that they can 'afford to pay to park in the city'.

Right now, local politicians get 230 euros a month for their work. Just like they get an additional 16 euros for every council or committee fashion they attend.

The city council members, on the other hand, refuse to take the bus, train or cycle to modern times. At least not after 21. And cycling is prohibited when the temperature drops below 0 degrees in winter, says Bernd Heynemann, a member of the CDU party in Magdeburg's city council, to the newspaper Bild.

However, according to Bild, the proposal faces criticism from all sides. For example, Nicole Anger from the left-wing party Linke calls the proposal hypocritical, 'where the city roots think of themselves first'.

Politicians who try to obtain special advantages or directly flout the law are not exceptional. Here at home, the newspaper BT was able to reveal last year how Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard (S) consistently parks illegally on Amager in Copenhagen.

However, the minister would neither apologize nor explain why he consistently breaks the law. Other than that 'it is important for him to be able to drop off his child at nursery and nursery school'.

However, the minister cannot avoid the stall. Because if the police see something like this, a fine of at least DKK 510 must be imposed. In certain cases, however, the fine can be raised to DKK 1,020.
